The Pleasure to Be - a short intro to clowning
Playfulness, complicity, curiosity, connection, awareness, wonder, imagination, courage, truthfulness, joy and perhaps most importantly - the pleasure to be. In this short taster workshop, we’ll touch our toes into the foundations of the state of clown; no squirty flowers, characters, gags or slapstick, this is the clown that invites us to unmask and step into genuine connection with an audience. We’ll ask ourselves: How is it to really play? Can I allow myself to see and be seen? What happens if we give ourselves the permission to not know and start to wonder instead? We’ll move our bodies (as much or as little as you like), we’ll play some games, we’ll connect to ourselves, to each other and explore the space around us. We’ll laugh with each other (and certainly at ourselves). No experience needed, wear clothes you can move in, bring comfy shoes (or your bare feet) and the willingness to dive in. Age 18+ Workshop facilitator: Saskia Solomons is a physical theatre performer and creator, storyteller, facilitator and clown-idiot-in-progress. They have had the good fortune to learn from various brilliant and sometimes terrifying teachers including Philippe Gaulier, Thomas Prattki, Holly Stoppit, Jonathan Young, A. de Castro, Peta Lily and Vivian Gladwell. Saskia has made numerous shows with numerous companies and recently created their first solo show, Fool’s Gold, which they took to the Edinburgh Fringe and will probably tour this year if they can get their act together! Saskia is also a practitioner of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and works as a humanitarian clown with kids and families in crisis with the Flying Seagull Project. They are passionate about exploring wonder, curiosity and holy stupidity as a means to create - and to live! 'I arrived in my head and left with a lifted heart! Saskia was such a good person to introduce us to clowning.' 'We were doing and experiencing rather than being told what we should be feeling.' 'Totally compassionate, intuitive, present, generous.' Email to receive details of future dates. We also offer gift vouchers for individual classes and can create an 'in person' or online class just for you and your family and/or friends (ages 14+).
